History

First Baptist Church Greenwich was founded in 1897 by seven female domestic workers. These pioneering women had a vision to create a “mission” where they could gather and worship God in the spirit and tradition they had brought north with them from the south. Through their hard work and dedication the First Baptist Church of Greenwich was born.
For more than 100 years, First Baptist Greenwich has been what one writer called – “A Community within a Community – sharing in the life of both its membership and the broader Greenwich community. We are a family church. We are a welcoming church. We are a Bible-Based, Christ-Centered, diverse congregation with strong family values and an uncompromising commitment to education, missions and spiritual development.
Our mission is to “Encourage, Equip and Empower the People of God for the Work of God at Home and Abroad.” We take pride in honoring the original spirit of our founders and evolving that vision in order to combine reverence with relevance. First Baptist Church, Greenwich remains a wonderful place to serve, share, worship and grow. First Baptist: “The Spirit of God Moves Here.”
